How do I get a library card?
Residents of Devine and the surrounding communities are eligible for a free library card if they are:
- 18 years and older.
- Provide identification (driver's license or photo ID).
- Proof of residency (lease, utility statement, checkbook, etc) if identification does not list current address.
The Driscoll Public Library issues family library cards. All spouse and dependent cards will be issued under the adult applying for the library card.
Registration is updated bi-annually.
How do I get a library card for my child?
The Driscoll Public Library issues family library cards. A parent or guardian with a photo ID and proof of residency must accompany children under 18. All spouse and dependent cards will be issued under the adult applying for the library card.
The parent or guardian is responsible for all materials borrowed on the library card.
How do I update my library card information?
Registration expires after two years. Library cards must be renewed in person and require identification with your current address.
A valid library card is one that has not expired and has a total of less than $5.00 in fines and fees pending. A non-valid library card cannot be used to borrow additional materials until it is renewed and fines/fees pending are less than $5.00.
How do I replace my lost library card?
If you lose your library card, report it immediately to the library. You are responsible for items borrowed on your card. Replacement charge is $1 per card.
How many books and movies can I check out at a time?
You may borrow five (5) books /audio books per person on the account not to exceed twenty (20) books per card.
You may borrow three (3) Videocassettes or DVDs per account.
What are the loan periods, fines, etc.?
- Loan periods:
- For book and audio book materials, the loan period is two (2) weeks. Most items can be renewed twice for two-week periods each time. The maximum loan period, including renewals, is six weeks.
- For Videocassettes and DVD materials, the loan period is one (1) week. Most items can be renewed twice for one-week period each time. The maximum loan period, including renewals, is three weeks.
- Materials not renewable:
- Materials will not be renewed if materials are on hold for another borrower or were requested through our Interlibrary Loan service.
- Fines:
- Books or Audio books: $0.05 per day / maximum fine of $5.00 per title
- Videocassettes or DVDs: $1.00 per day / maximum fine of $10.00 per title
How do I place title(s) on hold?
Title(s) may be placed on hold by requesting a reserve for the material(s) at the circulation desk.
How do I renew my books and movies?
Library materials may be renewed by phone or in person if the material is not on reserve for other patrons. Books and audio books are renewed for a two (2) week period. DVDs and Videocassettes are renewed for a one (1) week period. The maximum loan period, including renewals, is six (6) weeks for books and (3) weeks for DVD's and VHS's.
How do I request an item not listed in the card catalog?
You may request items not listed in the library’s catalog by completing an Interlibrary Loan Request form available at the circulation desk. If available, requests are usually filled in two (2) to six (6) weeks. The loan period for an Interlibrary Loan is two weeks. Renewals are usually not available.
Can I make copies/printouts? How much do they cost?
Yes, Black and white copies/printouts are $0.20 per page. Patrons are responsible for all copies/printouts including pages printed in error.
Are computer classes available?
The library offers basic computer classes, which teach beginners how to use the mouse, create an e-mail account, accessing the Internet, and other beginning computer skills. Below is the 2009 computer class schedule:

What do you need to use the computer in the library?
Computers are available for public use. Users must have read and signed the library’s Internet Policy and be assigned a computer by the circulation desk staff on a first come-first serve basis. Computer usage is guaranteed for one hour. Wifi is also available for those who want to use their own Laptop computers in the library.
How do I recommend an item for purchase?
Library patrons may request that books or other materials be added to the library collection. Requests are considered with the same criteria as all library materials as outlined in the Library’s Collection Development Policy.
Can I donate a book in memory of a loved one?
Donations to the Library are always welcome. You can memorialize a loved one with a monetary or book donation. Donations can also honor a special anniversary couple or birthday recipient. Ask for further details at the circulation desk.
